If you think the month of May will slow down after the hyper-packed weekend it had last week, think again! May’s last weekend has just the right offering, with a mix of commercial and local festivals.
The Sherp rounds up the best of the lot.
1. Nelsonville Music Festival
Where: Nelsonville, Ohio
When: May 28 to 31
This four day festival is known to be one of the perfectly sized festivals in all of USA. While the 2015 edition features acts like The Flaming Lips, St. Vincent, Mavis Staples, Black Lips, Merle Haggard, among others, the festival firmly believes in a candid, more intimate experience, by doing away with massive stage set-ups, and by sizing down the audience arena to award a significantly low-key affair, while enjoying the best in music. With a weekend pass at a meagre $140 and camping at $25, the festival stands true to its word.

2. BottleRock Napa
Where: Napa Valley
When: May 29 to 31
Quite possibly the biggest festival this weekend is the BottleRock Napa in Napa Valley, California. Featuring acts like Imagine Dragons, Robert Plant, No Doubt, Foster the People, The Avett Brothers, Cage the Elephant, Snoop Dogg, Awolnation among others, the line-up is easily one of the better picked this year. The festival also features a culinary stage among other ecologically sustainable features.

3. Sweetlife
Where: Columbia, MD
When: May 30 to 31
Sweetlife is a unique festival in its own right. A music festival presented by a cuisine outlet, Sweetgreen, amalgamating two things people love – food and music, as the changing symbol on their website suggests. They aim for their attendees to listen to the music while indulging in the best local cuisine around presented by local restaurant Sweetgreen. Featuring artists like Kendrick Lamar, Pixies, Calvin Harris, The Weekend, Tove Lo and Phantogram among others to take care of the music part, the festival has some ridiculously amazing food offering in tow.

4. Rockfest
Where: Kansas
When: May 30
An effort of one of the more popular radio stations in Kansas City, 98.9 The Rock, Rockfest features a heady mix of rock acts that are bound to lead headbangers straight to its gates. With names like Rob Zombie, We Are Harlot, The Pretty Reckless, Anthrax and Halestorm, it’s easily one of the more sought after rock festivals in America.

5. The Roots Picnic
Where: Philadelphia
When: May 30
Hip-hop, neo-soul band The Roots are one of the more coveted bands of all time. As Philadelphia natives, they also lead the festival The Roots Picnic which puts together eclectic bands across genres. This year will see singer-songwriter Erykah Badu backed by The Roots, along with acts like The Weekend, Phantogram, Hudson Mohawke, and King Brit. It’s the kind of line-up that should not be missed.
