The new Snapchat Geofilters will allow small and large festivals to create their own customized filters for inexpensive promotion.

Snapchat isn’t worth over $16 Billion for nothing as their innovative features have always beenΒ ahead of the game. Be it the 24 hour and gone snaps or theΒ recently introduced selfie filters which haveΒ spread like wildfire.

The hugely popular,Β Snapchat Geofilters originallyΒ only showcased major cities andΒ events curated by Snapchat, but now anyone with some basic Photoshop skills can submit a filter and link it to specific coordinates for a minuscule fee.Β For those of you living under a rock, a geofilter is an overlay on top of the image that is location specific allowing a kind of visual “check in”, visible to your followers.

CertainΒ festivals and events around the world already allowed audiences to use such filters which were then broadcast around the world butΒ was restricted to official Snapchat filters. Snapchat has now introduced two new categories : Personal and Business. As long as the geofilter meetsΒ all the guideines laid down by Snapchat, small scale festivals and events (or even an individual) can easily generate a fun way for the audience to show their appreciation while simultaneously spreading the word.

The On-Demand geofilters need to be submitted a month in advance andΒ must be linked to an area between 20 thousand and 5 million square feet for a maximum period of 30 days. Filters should be 1920p tallΒ and 1080p wide. Once accepted and published, the app will use location services to detect the user’s location and automatically display the filter among the options.
