For the past few months leading up to the release of their new album, Gorillaz have been unveiling multimedia stories that recap the events in the lives of the band’s central characters in parts. It began with The Book of Noodle, followed by The Book of Russel and The Book of Murdoc respectively. Yesterday, they released the latest narrative in the series, The Book Of 2D.
Each one of these stories focuses, in depth, into the journey of each of the members, following the release of their 2010 album ‘Plastic Beach’. The latest cartoon shows the lead singer being devoured by a whale named Massive Dick, after coming out of hiding. The whale ultimately washes ashore leaving 2D stranded until he was spotted several months later by a plane flying along the coast. After a year of soul searching, 2D flies back home where he is reunited with Murdoc, Russel, and Noodle.
