Here’s The Sherp’s verdict on the Berlin based brand’s two day warehouse techno affair in New York.
With fresh events launched this year in Beirut, Croatia, and Italy, as well as its 4 month summer residency at Ibiza’s Amnesia and the Berlin NYE festival, HYTE has swiftly become a name associated with top-notch parties on a global level. Techno lovers in New York were glad to welcome HYTE back to their city for the third time. To make up for its absence in North America last year, HYTE extended their party to 2 days this year. The star studded lineup included a total of 26 acts.
This year’s party took place at The Brooklyn Hangar in Sunset Park which previously hosted acts like Justice, and Armin van Buuren. The isolated hangar’s massive warehouse makes it an ideal venue for large parties that run through the night. While the production and sound at the warehouse stage was quite impressive with lasers and giant LED screen, the quality of production at the outdoor and basement stages was rather underwhelming.
Day 1 included sets from the likes of Ostgut Ton head honcho Ben Klock, Desolat’s Loco Dice, and the French trio Apollonia, who closed out the warehouse stage. However, it was the Grammy nominated hometown hero, Kenny Dope who stole the show with his thunderous set on the first night at HYTE.

Day 2 featured Brooklyn’s very own, Danny Tenaglia, Second State Audio’s masterminds Pan Pot. We also experienced a double dose of Techno heavyweights, Chris Liebing and Dubfire who played solo sets at the outdoor stage and then teamed up for a colossal back to back set which was a fitting way to end the party.

In terms of the music, there are very few festivals on the East Coast that compare to HYTE. We picked out some of our favorite tunes from HYTE in our article here.
While the music at HYTE was on point, we would love to see improvements in the production, amenities, food and beverages to enhance the overall festival experience. Overall, HYTE’s mini-festival in New York was definitely a fun way to spend Independence Day Weekend. HYTE is scheduled to be back in New York this Halloween, so get your costumes ready!
