Slipknot’s Knotfest Forced To Scrap Camel Dung Stint

The band has to rework their bizarre plans to flood the festival with camel dung smell after local officials force them to pull the plug on this incredibly stupid scheme

As reported by the Sherp earlier, metal band Slipknot has devised plans to give their yearly self-curated rock festival a ‘unique smell’ by burning camel dung during the event. As expected, this didn’t go down very well with California fire officials who aren’t super keen on the idea of having dozens of flaming barrels of oil and camel crap inside a crowded festival area. This is bad news for Slipknot, who planned to make the burning humped animal’s dump the “official scent of Knotfest” (according to a tweet).

Since burning oil is an illegal activity in California, officials have quite understandably asked the rockers to shelve this incredibly disturbing concept, which can quite easily create a nuisance for the environment. But the band seem opaque to this logic.

Earlier, percussionist Shawn Crahan told a music magazine:

“We did the camel dung on the first Knotfest. It was awesome; it was beautiful… (fans) came into the museum and they had to be hit with camel s**t. A very distinct smell… it’s gonna be a reoccurring thing.”

Well, it’s not going to happen. Thank God.

The festival takes place every October, with this year’s edition beginning on the 24th, held in San Bernardino, California. If you’re someone who’s out to get their thrash metal fix, Knotfest is the perfect place for you.  Some of the popular acts performing (out of the 59) at the festival will be Anthrax, Napalm Death and Slipknot themselves.

Knotfest is also a world of weird. This year, it will include a goat petting zoo, a Burning Man-inspired thunderdome that will hold fights every night of the festival and a zip line – the first ever at a music festival in the US.
