The American rock band has been together since 2004. The band has consisted of lead vocalist and guitarist Myles Kennedy, lead guitarist and backing vocalist Mark Tremonti, bassist Brian Marshall, and drummer Scott Phillips. They’ve managed to put out some incredible songs over the years. Here are a few songs you should hear to get yourself energised for the week ahead!
1. Broken Wings
This song was the third and final single from the band’s debut studio album, One Day Remains. When Scott Phillips and Tremonti quit Creed, they started working on a couple of demos for about half the record, like this song. Tremonti at that point of time wasn’t convinced that he could lead the band in vocals. That’s when Myles joined the band and got writing. Best decision ever. Myles scales heights at the bridge of the song. You’ll have goosebumps all over.
2.Watch Over You
How does one write an achingly beautiful song like this one? To the writers – lead guitarist Mark Tremonti and Myles Kennedy, you guys are geniuses, no doubt. The song is usually performed live in a “stripped down” acoustic format, by Myles alone. This one is just as good.
3. Open Your Eyes
So apparently, Mark Tremonti wanted “Down To My Last” to be the first single, but the record company rejected it, saying it sounded too much like Creed. Ouch. Nonetheless, this song went on to become the first single by Alter Bridge.
4. Rise Today
According to Tremonti, “Rise Today” is a song written “about asking yourself what you can do to change the world for the better and how you can be a better person” Fun Fact. It was featured as the main theme song of the WWE pay-per-view Unforgiven in September 2007. Now, how cool is that?
5. In Loving Memory
In an interview with MTV, Tremonti said: “There are a lot of themes on this record that are very personal, for example ‘In Loving Memory’ is about my mother who recently passed away. In terms of purely personal significance, you cannot get any deeper than that. It is definitely sad, but uplifting song. Just imagine how Tremonti must have felt when the whole crowd starts singing the last chorus. Beautiful.
6. Blackbird
At nearly eight minutes long, it is the band’s longest song to date. In March 2011, Guitarist magazine listed the song’s guitar solo, which is performed by both Myles Kennedy and Mark Tremonti, as the greatest guitar solo of all time.
7.Metalingus
Although, it was never a single, it is one of the band’s most popular and well-known songs by the band. WWE fans will know that this song was used as the entrance theme for WWE wrestler and superstar Edge from 2004 until his retirement from wrestling in 2011, and whenever Edge made a one-off appearances on WWE shows. Also, the song was written in one day. Isn’t that insane? For all the guitar riffs, head banging is a must.
