il Nas X’s debut studio album, “Montero”, landed on number 2 on the Billboard top 200. Behind Drake’s “Certified Lover Boy”. Lil Nas X gained popularity with his “country-trap” song “Old Town Road”. Which was a chart-busting phenomenon almost two years ago, setting a record of “19 weeks at No. 1”. This song was so huge it got multiple remixes from various artists as well.
According to Chart Data, Lil Nas X sold approximately 129K equivalent album units. Which is his biggest first week in sales including 147 million streams, landing at second place. Drake’s latest album was ahead from Lil Nas X by about 40K units, with Certified Lover Boy selling 170K in its third week.
The album, Montero, has 15 songs that feature various artists like Elton John, Megan Thee Stallion, Doja Cat and Miley Cyrus and is Lil Nas X’s first official LP, after “7,” an eight-track EP released in 2019. It was nominated for album of the year at the Grammys. “7” also peaked at No. 2 on the album chart.
Lil Nas X was happy with a number 2 as he tweeted, “Montero already a classic”.After Montero’s release, he revealed that he sent the song “Industry Baby” with Jack Harlow to Nicki Minaj as well. Nas X also said that Ski Mask the Slump God was almost on the album but the album had to be turned in before he could finish his verse. The final version of the track features Doja Cat.
