How Kanye West Finnesed his fans with DONDA and still got a #1 album!

Kanye West’s “DONDA”  is now his 10th No. 1 album on the Billboard 200.

Kanye had delayed the album release by almost a month which made the fans even more excited for the album release.

The massive 27-track effort has topped the chart with the biggest sales week of any album of 2021, earning around 309,000 equivalent album units for the week ending September 2, according to Billboard.

These numbers also include around 357.4 million on-demand streams and 37,000 in pure sales. Olivia Rodrigo’s -‘Sour’- previously held the record for the charting with around 295,000 equivalent album units. Kanye West’s “DONDA” also earned the largest streaming week of the year for an album, surpassing J. Cole’s -‘The Off-Season’- which earned around 325.05 million on-demand streams during its May debut week.

“DONDA” debuted at number 1 in numerous major countries including the US, UK, and Australia.

Though the album has seen a fair amount of acclaim from both fans and critics alike, replay value takes time to reveal itself.

Kanye’s 10th No. 1 album makes him the first artist who debuted this century to score 10 No. 1 albums.

It also makes him the seventh artist in history to have 10 chart-topping albums. The ones on the list are- The Beatles with 19, Jay-Z with 14, and Bruce Springsteen, Eminem, Barbara Streisand, and Elvis Presley also have 10 or more. Drake and Taylor Swift both have nine. Drake is expected to match Kanye’s accomplishment with his new album, ‘Certified Lover Boy’.
