August is the unofficial start of festival season, so here are the 8 best electronic festivals to get you geared up for the rest of the year!
From Shambhala to Creamfields, the top electronic festivals from around the world are on the list, so if you aren’t in any of these countries right now, you’re definitely missing out on some good stuff.
Here is the list that will probably give you a taste of what to expect this month:
1. Shambhala
2016 will mark the 19th year of Shambhala’s existence. The four-day festival will begin from August 5-8, and will be held at Salmo River Ranch in British Columbia. Shambhala has left no stone unturned this year by stacking a plethora of creative music geniuses like Boys Noize, Excision, Beats Antique and What So Not, among a number of others! It’s one of the biggest electronic music festivals in Canada for a reason.
2. OZORA
Ozora is the holy grail of psytrance festivals, the meeting point of new age gurus from around the world, as they assemble together for the music and the spirit. It runs from August 1-7, and happens in Dadpuzsta, Hungary. Ozora has events all around the globe, and they even did a stopover in Goa not long ago.
3. The Sound You Need
Situated in the middle of the Mediterranean sea, The Sound You Need happens on the sun kissed island of Malta. The festival site is located in the Ta Qali area, one of the most beautiful parts of the island. It has 3 open air stages, pool and beach Parties and a huge line up to boast of. It’s all about the perfect summer vibes and outstanding locations. It happens from August 26-29
4. Vertex
Vertex is a brand-new 3-day camping festival headed by Madison House Presents, the same people that produce one of Michigan’s finest electronic music festivals, Electric Forest. Vertex is scheduled for August 5-7, and it’ll happen at Cottonwood Meadows in Buena Vista. It comes with a beastly lineup for a camping festival. ODESZA, Seven Lions and Duke Dumont are only three names from a very versatile lineup!
5. Soundwave
Soundwave Croatia, one of Europe’s most friendly and intimate festivals, stands out from this list because of its alternative and laid-back nature, and its focus on jazz, dub, reggae and hip-hop music. It’s happening in Tisno at the start of August, so if you’re not the EDM kind, this one’s for you. Soundwave also has a live art and film programme, incorporated only by a handful of music festivals in the world.
6. Creamfields
Two Creamfields are happening; there’s a Malta edition happening on August 15, and the main one is happening on August 25. It is one of the world’s biggest and most revered dance music festivals. The lineup has almost everyone from the dance music spectrum, so it should be quite a blast this year.
7. Imagine
Held at Old Fourth Ward Park and Masquerade Music Park in downtown Atlanta, Imagine Festival is the accumulator of free-thinking electronic music fans, who dwell in its 2-day musical affair, expressing the best of their creative beliefs. As opposed to most mainstream electronic music festivals that gather the most repeated, clichéd names in the electronic music industry, Imagine gathers the most qualitative names from the scene.
8. Mysteryland
Mysteryland is a series of electronic dance music festivals held by the Netherlands-based promoter ID&T. Being the first of its kind in the country when it was established, its organizers have billed the event as the oldest dance music festival in the Netherlands. The current location for Mysteryland Netherlands is Haarlemmermeerse Bos in Haarlemmermeer; an exhibition ground that hosted the 2003 edition of the Dutch gardening festival Floriade. This year’s edition is happening from August 27-28.
