The Sherp’s ‘What to expect’ + Guide for Vh1 Supersonic 2013

The hugely anticipated debut festival VH1 Supersonic is all set to take place on Candolim beach, Goa, this week.  Here’s The Sherp’s guide of what THIS festival has planned for you!

What to expect?
1. superVENUE
From the 26th to the 30th of December, Candolim Beach is where all the madness is set to take place. So what makes it the perfect place to host a 5 day long music fest? Located 15 kilometres from Panjim – this North Goan piece of paradise  is known to be one of the longest beach in the state and has been a popular venue for *ahem* other electronic music festivals as well.

2. superSTAGES
Stages. Stages. Stages!
We’ve been hearing quite a bit about how (for the lack of a better term) ‘insane’ they’re going to be.  With that prior info – The Sherp dug a little deeper and this is what he uncovered.
So, to make things easier to understand,  over 100 artists will be performing on 3 stages over a span of 5 days, capiche? We’ve come to know that the Main Stage or the Submarine Stage will feature all of the major acts performing at the festival.

As the name suggests, the stage (designed by renowned artist Sameer Kulavoor of Bombay Duck Designs) will reflect a ‘larger than life’ submarine set to a backdrop of underwater marine life + a whole lot off acid pop art.

Cheggit!

The second stage, named ‘The Supersonic Laboratory’ will feature UV-ready graffiti and graphic art designs from local Indian talent, set against the beautiful Goan backdrop of coconut palm-studded beaches.

And while information on the 3rd stage (Bass or Alternative Stage) is a bit ambiguous we know Prash from Engine-Earz Experiment and Vachan Chinnappa will be curating the stage  which will showcase the very best home grown talent India has to offer.

superLINEUP
For a debut festival, Vh1 Supersonic has definitely given a lot of thought and hard work (we’re assuming) in acquiring their stellar lineup.

One thing you need to know – There will be a lot of BASS at this festival, from  UK bass mavericks, Engine-Earz Experiment to Benny Page, Orifice Vulgatron, Killsonik, Bare Noize, Engine-Earz, Moniker, Vachan Chinnappa.

In addition to that,  massive international acts like the ever popular Above & Beyond, Albin Myers, Benny Benassi, Booka Shade, BT, Edu Imbernon, Felix Cartal, Ferry Corsten (3 hour ‘Spotlight Set’), Julian Jordan, Hard Rock Sofa, Funkagenda, Sander Kleinenberg will also be playing at the festival.

superFUN
Festival curator Nikhil Chinapa has often insisted Vh1 Supersonic’s aim to be  not just to showcase some gnarly electronic music but also the ultimate ‘experience’ of a music festival. Taking a page out of NH7’s and Magnetic Fields book. Supersonic will  feature art installations and hippy markets.

And taking the experience a little further, there will also be beach sports, professional graffiti artists and shaded chill zones. The festival will also have a strong local focus, creating a platform to nurture and promote some of India’s best DJs on the same stages as the international artists, and will, more importantly than anything else, place absolute importance on the safety of all of it’s festival-goers.

Be a festival Ninja

Stay connected: If you’re attending the festival with some friends, make sure you all have your cellular devices all juiced up. Finding reception while you’re inside, might be a little tricky so make sure you co-ordinate with your friends prior to the festival.

Stay comfortable: This is for you ladies. If this is your first time to a festival, be warned that there will be a lot of walking, jumping and running around involved. It would be wiser to come wearing comfortable shoes like flats or boots.

Stay Hydrated: There will be ample amount of water available at the festival.  Be smart and stay hydrated especially with all the dancing you’ll be doing.

Co-operate: No one’s restricting you from having a good time, but the festival comes with certain rules and regulations which are there for a reason. It’d be best if you stick to them, for your sake and others.

Be a festivalFriend: If you’re someone with a medical background, you can always lend a helping hand.

Stay smart :  While The Sherp does not condone or condemn the abuse of drugs, it’d be best to keep those nefarious activities out of the festival venue. Be warned, if you are caught with anything illegal you will solely be held responsible and handed over to the authorities. The same goes for alcohol. There will be plenty of it to go around but will not be served to anyone below the age of 21.
Drink responsibly because any sort of unruly drunken behavior will get you thrown out. Plain and simple.

Stay nice: Just relax and have a good time with your friends – it contributes to the general vibe of the festival.
