Last weekend Bombay saw its second edition of the Sunburn music festival, dubbed as Sunburn B2B. Featuring a flurry of immensely popular international and local talent, the festival achieved what it set to achieve.
The Line up and Stages
The second edition of the Sunburn Festival Mumbai definitely had what one would call ‘unbeatable’. With acts like Paul van Dyk, Fedde Le Grand, Showtek, Kohra, Wolfpack, Josh Wink, Adam Bayer, Orjan Nilsen, and of course big daddies of EDM – Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike forming a substantial part of the line up, it’s safe to say every set was high energy and fist pump worthy. Day 1 saw the likes of Sartek and Orjan Nilsen really pick up the tempo at each stage with their sets, hence ‘setting’ a perfect precursor for the two closing sets by Paul van Dyk and Fedde Le Grand.
PVD came dressed in a kurta and took minutes out of his set to just stand there and vibe with the crowd. In simple terms – that drove them wild.
Day 2 was even more exciting, featuring two stages – Smash The House and Afterburn. Smash The House catered to the EDM loving fans, with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike premiering their ‘Smash the House Stage’ exclusively at Sunburn, featuring music power house Tom Staar and Wolfpack. The crowd foot stomped for hours at a stretch and left the stage completely entertained with Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike’s antics to get the crowd going.
Afterburn was for those inclined towards techno and minimal sounds. The stage featured some of the big daddies of the genre like Adam Beyer and Josh Wink amongst others. Even though, (Resident DJs of Tomorrowland), Dimitri Vegas and Like Mike’s set at the Smash The House Stage was a more popular closing set among the young crowd, Adam Beyer’s closing set at Afterburn was nothing short beautiful (including his visuals).
Venue and Activities
Along with the 2 stages, 19 artists and 28 hours of music came, the festival also including art installations, graffiti walls, a flea market, chill out zones, and an adventure rappling tower to keep attendees entertained.
Although, these guys really stole the show!
And while the venue could accommodate everything under one roof, it seemed a little too crowded. Also, the VIP areas where situated towards the far left and far right of each of stages more or less defeating the purpose of actually having a VIP area. Entering the festival was surprisingly easier and faster than expected. Safety seemed to be taken quite seriously by the organizers, as you could see medic doing rounds of the festival. Props to them for that.
The Vibe
The Sherp would say that there was a definite happy vibe to the festival, because a lot of the popular acts catered to a younger crowd it was definitely nice to see teenagers kicking back on the grass or going beserk during the headliner performances.
If The Sherp had to rate the festival in general – he’d give it a 7/10.
