Sherp Review: Sunburn Arena with Avicii (Mumbai)

India had the twice-in-a-row #3 DJ play in Mumbai, Bangalore and Delhi thanks to Sunburn! Mumbai was the first city to be graced by Avicii’s presence on Friday, December 6 2013. The Sherp reached the Mahalaxmi Race Course to find overly enthusiastic young girls shrieking ‘Aviiiciiiiiii!!!’ – which just augmented the excitement in the air!

Here are the highlights:

The Sherp reached the venue when Otto Knows was twenty minutes into his set, and he already had the crowd bouncing to his sounds! He dropped all kinds of house tracks, especially stuff from the Swedish House Mafia clan like Axwell & Dirty South’s remix of Sweet Disposition, the vocal variation of Reload, Axwell’s remix of In My Mind and the fan-all-time-favorite Calling (Lose My Mind). Closing his set with ‘Million Voices’ was a spectacular moment!

Highlight: When he dropped Daft Punk’s ‘Doin It Right’.

There was a brief lull after Otto Knows’ performance, but it felt like eternity for the fans that were yearning to see Avicii on stage! Finally, Mumbai got a glimpse in the dark of the young man wearing his signature cap – and the moment he came on, we heard him play the exceptional ‘I Could Be The One’. Needless to say, the crowd went absolutely deranged!

What followed was two hours of outright frenzy with chart-busters like Alesso’s mashup of Superlove vs. Sweet Nothing, Lana Del Rey’s ‘Dance In The Water’ and Ellie Goulding’s mesmerizing ‘Fall Into The Sky’. The last ten minutes of his set consisted of ‘Seek Bromance’, ‘Wake Me Up’ and he wrapped up the memorable night with a remix of One Republic’s ‘Apologize’.

Highlight: Avicii pleasantly surprised us all by playing ‘White Noise’ by Disclosure in the middle of his set!
