Remember that iconic moment when Prince covered Radiohead’s Creep at Coachella 2008, before blocking the said video on YouTube? Yes, the video’s back, and we have it right here.
Prince and Radiohead are, both, undisputed legends of musical history. The former, a multi-instrumentalist RnB pop singer-songwriter, and the latter, alternative rock geniuses, command equal respect. So, when Prince took to the headlining stage at Coachella 2008 and delivered a surprising cover of Radiohead’s creep, it was the moment music enthusiasts never knew they needed! So phenomenal was the soulful slightly-masochistic cover, that it is still counted as among the best covers in musical history.
That was until the people, who weren’t there when the cover was sung, could see it on YouTube. For the singer had it blocked not too long after.
Prince has been known to have quite a wobbly relationship with the internet. When he’s not tweeting like a pro, he’s busy declaring ‘The Internet to be over’. With his cover of Creep though, he went as far as blocking every upload of the song to ever take place, making the moment hearsay to others and exclusive to the audience part of that incredibly special event.
This, even while Thom Yorke wanted the cover to be uploaded and to remain.
“Really? He’s blocked it? Surely we should block it. Hang on a moment. Well, tell him to unblock it. It’s our … song.”
Despite this, the moment remained elusive to fans of either set of performers. While clips make it to YouTube dime a sozen, Prince managed to keep this moment away from fans for an awfully long time.
Until now.
YouTube user Miles Hartl has re-uploaded the video to Youtube, claiming he had Prince’s permission to do so. What more, is that Prince decided to share the video on his twitter in cryptic Prince fashion.
