The US state of Nevada has approved on a new tax on live entertainment, which includes 9% extra charge on music festival tickets such as Burning Man.
This bill has been approved and is set to come in effect later this year for Burning Man and possibly EDC.
Burning Man organizers describe the bill as ‘misguided‘. “Burning Man is a non-profit organisation that spends more than $11m in Nevada, has vendor contracts with local businesses and is a strong supporter of arts around the state,” says the Burning Man spokesperson.

The organizers are still deliberating whether this extra cost will be passed onto the consumers or taken upon the festival organizers as a loss.
Jennifer Forkish, from Insomniac, the company behind EDC, says, “Even though EDC will not be impacted this year, this tax increase could force us to operate at a loss in the future.”
