Know Why This Harlem Music Festival Is Unlike Any Event You Might Have Attended

The two-day Harlem Creates Music Festival charges no entry fee and is open to all; founded just to celebrate the sense of community in the culturally-rich area in Manhattan, New York

While most festivals look to serve the twin goals of business and good entertainment, a new US festival is swimming against the tide in a bid to promote a sense of community in the region. The Harlem Creates Music Festival, to be held in Manhattan on September 6-7, is open to all, and will feature a unique mix of artistes. These include the world music/afrobeat outfit, The Earthman Experience, jazz/R&B band Rackiem Walker ProjectSugartone Brass Band, cellist Jacob Shaw and rock/soul band Quantum Split.

The two-day affair will be held at two venues – the Apollo Theatre and the Riverbank State Park, that overlooks the beautiful Hudson river. The entire project is an initiative of Create X, Inc, a not-for-project organisation.

According to the organisers,

“The purpose of the Harlem Creates Music Festival is to showcase an exceptional community. Harlem is home to a wealth of musical diversity with strong representation and identity from all genres. More than any other area of Manhattan, Harlem stands apart as a microcosm of New York’s cultural mosaic.”
