Good on you, Amsterdam

Aren’t we all tired of the exorbitant prices of food, water and beverages at music festivals? While the rest of us have to shell out twice the amount for a bottle of water at these events, the good folk of Amsterdam City Council recently declared that all of their local festival organisers will only be given licenses if they provide unlimited access to free water for festival-goers.

One thing’s for sure, the Amsterdam City Council does take complaints seriously. Apparently, a series of them were lodged after the Amsterdam Open Air Festival, where many attendees complained that they were denied permission to fill their water bottles at available taps by security personnel. There have been similar complaints at other festivals, including the high prices of bottled water at festivals.

The very well-received new ruling states that festivals will be required to provide at least one water fountain for every 150 people attending the event, keeping punters hydrated and happy.
