Hit The Waves With India’s First Surf, Music and Yoga Festival

The Covelong Point Classic Surf and Music Festival is not anything you’ve seen before. A festival that combines surfing, yoga, sun and sand, and three nights full of amazing music on the beach, it’s a happy paradise for anyone who loves the ocean. And it’s FREE. Surf’s up, dude!

It’s happening from September 18-20 this year, and is actually based around the Covelong Point Classic Surf Contest, at the Covelong Point Social Surf School. Here, you can take part in the contest, learn to surf, or just spend some amazing quality time with the ocean whilst surrounded by fun people and great music.

Surfing

With a spectacular display of raw surfing talent – both local and international, the contest has expanded from national level competition (17 & 18 September) to the Asian Surfing Competition (19 & 20 September), which brings in people from all over the continent! Cricketing legend Jonty Rhodes is attending the festival as the official surf ambassador for the festival. But wait, you don’t need to know how to surf to be here. The Surf School is actually offering free lessons at the festival for anyone who’s interested!

Music

The festival has three stages – the Beach Stage, the IndiEarth Open Stage and the Yoga Stage. The Beach Stage has a lineup that grows more awesome with each year, and this time, artists like Dualist Inquiry, Surprise, Skrat, Swarathma and Sharma and the Besharams are set to rock this stunning space set against the backdrop of the vast blue ocean. The IndiEarth Open Stage on the other hand gives new artists a chance, with people sending entries from across the country to be shortlisted for a display of some insane new talent. The Yoga Stage on the other hand creates an ethereal atmosphere with yoga workshops onstage, and artists performing ambient, acoustic, soulful music.

Yoga Shala and Other Fun Activities

Combine yoga with the beach, and that’s pretty close to perfection. The yoga tent has some of the best instructors in India conducting classes and workshops – from Power to Hatha to Acro, there’s something for everyone.

The festival also has a whole bunch of fun things to do and experience, like water gun fights, beach volleyball tournaments, kayak races and rangoli. The IndiEarth On Screen host outdoor screenings in the village featuring an eclectic blend of Indian and international cinema, and the Rhapsody Music Foundation will organise acapella vocal classes for the village kids!

“The primary aim of the festival is to use surfing as a catalyst for positive change, empowering the local community with initiatives surrounding their passion for surfing. It is a passion for surfing, a love of music from around the world, and a deep connection to the ocean that continues to drive the festival’s spirit, year after year.”
