Joining the likes of Elton John and Kylie Minogue, Michael Eavis becomes the 23rd person to be awarded the lifetime contribution award at the Music Industry Trust Awards
An awards ceremony attended by 1,200 people at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel in aid of the Nordoff Robbins music therapy charity and the Brit Trust, has paid tribute to Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, who has been honored for his outstanding contribution to live music.
Eavis, who co-organizes the event with his daughter Emily after co-founder Andrew Kerr sadly passed away recently, founded the festival in 1970 and built it into one of the best-known festivals in the world, attracting the biggest names and generating millions of pounds. The first event in 1970 – then called Pilton Pop Festival – was held on Mr. Eavis’s Somerset farm.
The likes of Lily Allen,Coldplay, Damon Albarn and Sir Paul McCartney have paid tribute to 79-year-old Mr Eavis as he received the awards.
Glastonbury is one of the world’s foremost festivals, and this reflected in the fact that tickets for the 2015 edition sold out in less than half an hour. Read more about it HERE.
