UK’s top music festival has lost one of its co-founders after he lost his battle with an illness just before the Glastonbury tickets sold out this past week
Andrew Kerr, who organised the Glastonbury Fair in 1971 and saw it grow into one of the U.K.’s most celebrated music festivals, has died at 81.

Alongside Michael Eavis, owner of Worthy Farm, and Arabella Churchill, Winston Churchill’s granddaughter, Kerr helped put together he first Glastonbury Festival in 1971 which was originally called The Glastonbury Fair.
A keen gardener, cab driver, historian, TV researcher, farmer and sailor, it was Kerr who selected the site of the legendary Pyramid Stage on which Metallica, Dolly Parton and Kasabian performed to thousands of fans this year.
In 2011, at the age of 77, Mr Kerr celebrated the 40th anniversary of the Pyramid Stage by erecting his own ‘Spirit of ’71’ stage which featured a range of performances including poetry, trance music and space rock.

Glastonbury 2015 will be held from June 24-28, with rumored acts including Fleetwood Mac, Muse, Queen Depeche Mode, AC/DC, Diana Ross, Foals and Fatboy Slim.
