Effortless Music-Making With SoundBrush

Want to make your own music? No sweat! An iPad app called SoundBrush makes music-composing a piece of cake!

Sick of flinging birds in the air and slicing fruits on your iPad? Well, here’s some productive fun you can have with your gadget. SoundBrush lets you compose your own music, even if you don’t know how to play any musical instrument! How absolutely amazing is that?

To test out the concept of drawing music on a tablet, an MVP (model-view-presenter) was released in April 2012. Last month, a more sophisticated and suave second version was released which also included Discover – a sharing and collaboration platform.

This as-simple-as-ABC app is like finger painting with music. The user draws lines across the grid of the app. X and Y axes are mapped with time and notes respectively. The sound of each note is formed by recorded instruments. The piano, ocarina and harmonica are free of cost. To upgrade to various instrumental packages, users have to pay a few dollars.

What sets SoundBrush apart from rival apps like GarageBand is the wider range of notes it offers and the moving and copying groups of lines made easy. Looped samples have been evaded as it limits the range of songs the user can compose. Due to its sheer simplicity, the app is majorly used by people who don’t play any instruments. Evidently, this app is not for the professional music-makers as they have their own means to compose tunes. The ascendancy of SoundBrush lies in its ability to keep things basic and effortless for the consumer music market. Drawing on a touch-screen is instinctual for the masses.

At the moment, the app is completely bootstrapped, but co-founder Basil Al-Dajane stated that they’re looking to begin an initial round this October or November.
