Beware Of The Bugs At Burning Man

The internet has been buzzing with rumours of there being a bug infestation at the Burning Man site, and yes, they’re true.

Burning Man, an annual festival that celebrates radical self-expression and self-reliance through art and community, is facing yet another obstacle to its 2015 edition. The bug infestation is real, has been confirmed by Burning Man, and they seem to have taken over the site. This follows last year’s scare around the West Nile virus, which was found just 14 miles away in Gerlach, Nevada.

You may have seen the bug rumors on the internet. We are here to tell you that they are all true. Well maybe not all of the rumors, but the bugs are real. They’re everywhere. They bite. They crawl all over you. They get up and in you,” wrote John Curley on the Burning Man blog.

People building this year’s Black Rock City, which is the festival site, have sought medical help to deal with the bugs as well as the “nasty red welts” their bites leave. And since Burning Man rejects every kind of consumerism and runs on sharing and bartering, it looks like insect repellant, mosquito nets and bug zappers will be hot commodities this year!
