AT&T Might Have The Solution To All Your Mobile Network Woes At Festivals

It’s about damn time.

How many times have you lost your friends at a festival with no means to contact them because cell networks are down due to network congestion? Well all that might soon come to an end if AT&T’s proposed solution is implemented. While it may be currently planned only for AT&T users, it is quite probable that other networks will soon follow suit.

The concept basically revolves around drones hovering over the festival, carrying portable cell towers to ease network congestion. These drones will be equipped to relay AT&T’s 4G network, allowing for even fast internet access. The possibilities with this technology are endless as it could be used even in emergency situations such as in disaster affected areas or when repairs are being carried out.

According to AT&T :

Connecting drones to our nationwide LTE network lets us capture data and feed it directly to our systems. In turn, this can allow us to make changes to our network in real time.

By using drones to inspect a cell site, we’re able to conduct inspections more quickly and safely – and even access parts of a tower that a human simply could not. We anticipate this will allow us to improve our customers’ experience by enhancing our cell sites faster than ever before.
