Afropunk 2016’s New Lineup Reflects Black Culture Beautifully

Ice Cube, Cee Lo Green and Flying Lotus are all part of the lineup for the 12th edition of the Afropunk Festival!

Legendary rapper Ice Cube is all set to headline the 2016 Afropunk Festival. Scheduled to be held in Brooklyn on August 27-28, the lineup boasts of acts like Janelle Monáe, Tyler the Creator, CeeLo Green and George Clinton. This year, the Afropunk Festival celebrates its 12th edition with the theme “Power to the Party.”

The event is a celebration of the multifaceted black culture in addition to a fashion show in recent years. Well known Punk artists will be showcased with a superjam featuring members from Bad Brains, Fishbone and Living Colour. The festival will be held at the Commodore Barry Park in Fort Greene.

Described by the New York Times as “the most multicultural festival in the US,” the word Afropunk itself has become synonymous with open-minded, non-conforming and unconventional, placing the institution at the epicenter of urban culture inspired by alternative music. In 2015, the first ever edition out of the United States took place in Paris. Afropunk is now planning to bring the festival to other cities, both in the U.S. and internationally.
