Victoria’s annual five day art-and-rave festival takes place later this month. With thousands of ravers joining forces for one of the grandest psytrance music festivals, Earthcore’s 2015 edition is bound to be massive. For those who don’t know, Earthcore is an Australian psytrance festival that’s been around since the 90’s, bringing together the best music as well as the fans of the genre.
In the spirit of the upcoming edition of Earthcore, which takes place on November 27, here are some great things about the festival.
1. The Music
Known for their honest-to-God psychedelic lineups, Earthcore’s 2015 roster of artists doesn’t disappoint either. This year’s edition is to be headlined by Infected Mushroom, the phenomenal Isreali psytance band. Joining them are several other psychedelic/electronic mavens such as RØDHÅD, Pig & Dan, Chris Liebing, Danny Daze and Anklepants and more you can view here.
2. Beyond the music
There are a ton of immersive experiences attendees at Earthcore can indulge in. Starting from the DIY Social Calendar, where attendees can plan and post about social events open to all at the festival, to the ‘Bazaar of Earthly Desires’ an ethnic, market-like bazaar where you can purchase merch and little trinkets.
There is also the ‘Gypsy Village’ which offers a kind of bohemian experience. With food and chai served after-hours as sideshow performers and movie screenings take up the dimly-lit stage, this is a quaint after-party of sorts.
3. Leave no trace
One of the greatest things about Earthcore is that it is environmentally conscious. It has taken up the ‘Leave no trace’ belief adopted by many festivals these days. Their website also encourages the attendees to clean up after themselves. The festival has also adopted recycling and waste reduction techniques which include organized drop-offs for recycling waste at the venue. You can read more about it here.
4. Safety
Earthcore initiated a breath-test before sending attendees on their way after the festival, to ensure their safety. ‘Blow Me first’ is a legalized breath testing company aimed at making people aware of whether they sit over or under the legal alcohol limit. Every attendee intending to drive at Earthcore is required to go through this procedure.
5. The Art
The art at Earthcore is always astonishingly inventive, from psychedelic light installations to almost three dimensional paintings. You can take a look at this year’s installations here. The festival also features ‘The Fractured Reality Art Zone’, a showcase of international artworks from across the globe – from Thursday through Sunday.
6. The Atmosphere
The people are a huge factor that contributes to building the quintessential atmosphere at Earthcore. Amiable and laid-back, the entire vibe at the festival, while full of energy, isn’t obnoxious or overbearing. A good part of the festival focuses on the tranquility of the mind, body and spirit. Earthcore is a soulful getaway in earnest.
