Oh 2016, what have you done!
Sometimes, we think we are being overly-negative about a year that gifted us a lot of good times. But this time, we are perfectly correct in saying that 2016 sucked the joy out of some of our long-time favourite bands! Before you say we are ignoring the many positive events over the year, we would like to shed light on all the wonderful people like George Michael, Prince, David Bowie and Leonard Cohen that we have lost over the year!
Regardless, let’s be a little gloomier and talk about the bands that disbanded this year, right from electronica to country and rock music-lovers. We are all in this together!
1. Flosstradamus

2. Blood On the Dance Floor

This unique American-electronica duo, consisting of Dahvie Vanity and Jayy Von Monroe, announced in September 2016 that they will be disbanding after one final tour. The duo were always in the news because of their large fan-base, despite garnering a lot of criticism for their style and sexually explicit lyrics by critics.
3. Eagles

The Eagles need no introduction at all! Everyone can sing ‘Hotel California’ in their sleep. Yeah, well.. the six-time Grammy Award winning American Rock band consisting of Glenn Frey, Don Henley, Bernie Leadon and Randy Meisner, disbanded in March 2016 after the death of Glenn Frey. Following a tribute performance at the 58th Annual Grammy Awards, Don Henley, the only living original member of the band as of now, confirmed the dissolution of the band. And you ask us, why are we so morose?
4. Gossip

It seems like only yesterday that we were waiting for new music from this American indie rock trio – singer Beth Ditto, instrumentalist Brace Paine and drummer Hannah Blilie. In an interview with Pitchfork in February 2016, Beth Ditto confirmed their split while also announcing that she will be working on her clothing line and solo career. There go our hopes for watching them groove to Heavy Cross someday.
5. Joey + Rory

Another sad truth of 2016 is the disbandment of one of the best country singer/songwriter duo. Late Joey Feek and Rory Feek were country music’s sweethearts and they were married too! Since October 2015, after Joey’s terminal cancer diagnosis, the duo had cancelled all future concert appearances and in February 2016, their seventh and final album Hymns That Are Important to Us was released. It debuted at the top of the Billboard Top Country Albums chart and was highly successful. Rest In Peace, the incredibly talented Joey Feek.
