The film festival will celebrate the Singaporean music genre, ‘Xin Yao’.
With the rising popularity of Singapore films and the revival of ‘Xin Yao’ (meaning “Singapore Songs”), as a popular folk music genre with a modern twist, Delhiites will witness a true piece of Singapore culture and tradition through the film festival. Last year two Singapore films, ‘Apprentice’ by Boo Junfeng and ‘A Yellow Bird’ by K Rajagopal, were screened at the Cannes Film Festival and won much acclaim.
The film festival will screen five films at the fourth Singapore Film Festival in New Delhi this year. The festival is organised by the Singapore High Commission in New Delhi in partnership with the Directorate of Film Festivals, India. Each film screening will be followed by dialogues with filmmakers and experts.
Apart from ‘Apprentice’ and ‘A Yellow Bird’, two films dedicated to ‘Xin Yao‘ , ‘That Girl in a Pinafore’ and ‘The Songs We Sang’, will also be screened. The screening will conclude with the showcase of ‘7 Letters‘, a compilation of seven short films by Singapore’s seven top filmmakers.
Filmmakers K. Rajagopal, Yee Wei Chai, Kang Sheng, and musicians, Zennon Goh, Zi Jian Tan will be attending the festival coming down from Singapore. Indian film critic, Murtuza Ali and Indian filmmaker, Mr. Daljit Ami will also be joining the esteemed panel.
The event is set to take place from September 1-3 at Siri Fort Auditorium II, New Delhi. Entry to the festival is free of cost and is open on first-come-first-served basis.
