200 Dogs And Cats Rescued From Slaughter At The Yulin Dog Meat Festival

A truck carrying animals was stopped by activists just outside Beijing. The most horrifying part is that 20 dogs were found already dead inside.

Every year, the Yulin Dog Meat Festival butchers around 10,000 dogs, and even some cats, for their meat. The festival has received strong criticism from all the world, but the Chinese government does not seem to mind it, as no action to stop the festival has yet been taken.

But this year, 200 dogs and cats have hope for release as the truck ferrying them to slaughter was stopped by activists. The truck was spotted just outside Beijing and the police were immediately alerted. The activists stayed with the animals for 3 whole days, refusing to budge until they were released. Apparently, many of the dogs still had collars/name tags on them indicating they were stolen, which is common practice. The festival is only four weeks away.

The activists have been pictures feeding the animals, who were found in heartbreaking conditions. The most horrifying part is that 20 dogs were found already dead inside the truck.

The festival is garnering great opposition everywhere, including China. A petition to stop the deplorable festival has received a great response, with endorsements by celebrities such as Ricky Gervais. You can sign it here.
