16 Fans Killed In A Mishap At A K-Pop Festival In Seoul, South Korea

The attendees had climbed on to a ventilator grate, which collapsed under pressure of their body weight; a day later, an official who was in charge of security of the event commits suicide

Tragedy struck at a music event in Seoul, South Korea, on Saturday, October 18, when a group of enthusiastic attendees went down a ventilator shaft. According to media reports, 16 people were killed while as many as 11 were injured. Apparently, the unsuspecting young music fans had climbed onto the platform to get a better view of the stage where K-pop group 4Minute was performing.

The death toll might go up since some of the attendees that got injured are in critical condition. Reportedly, the victims fell over 10 metres deep into an underground parking lot.

In a shocking aftermath, an official who was in charge of the security at the event reportedly committed suicide a day after the mishap. 

In his last note, uploaded on Facebook as a status update, the 37-year-old said, “I apologise to the victims. I’m sorry to my family.”
