The Great Chicago Fire Festival this weekend will feature dazzling firework displays as a tribute to the city’s neighbourhoods
Come October 4, and the inaugural The Great Chicago Fire Festival willย bedazzle residents by lighting up the city with a spectacle of fire as an ode to its citizens and neighbours. The beautiful Chicago river will be the centre of this massive two-million dollar project, which has been engineered by some of the most creative minds hailing from the city.
The festival is an excellent initiative by the City of Chicago “to unite Chicagoโs neighborhoods and celebrate Chicagoโs grit, greatness and renewal following the fire of 1871.”ย What is really interesting, is that Redmoon (an initiative that converts public spaces into works of art) has partnered with over 30 community based organisations across 15 neighbourhoods in the city to bring out unique art, theatrical skill and machinery to make this event possible.
According to the festival website, the highlights will include:
“fiery cauldrons lowered from the bridges, hundreds of kayakers pulling flaming buoys and prairie gardens, and three floating sculptures resembling pre-1871 homes that will be set ablaze, each revealing a dramatic, symbolic interior core. The finale will feature a fireworks display set to music and moving tribute to Chicago’s neighborhoods.”
