In about a week, SPIRO will be hostingย The Glitch Mob – one of the best and brightest artistes who rose from the underground LA Beat scene and who have been making waves in the industry every since 2006.

The LA based synth geniuses, currently comprise Justin Boreta, Edward Ma and Joshua Mayer who have been instrumental in laying the foundation of glitch and electronica and also taking it forward. Their combined efforts, skills and aesthetics has transformed into compelling live and visual shows, that you need to see to believe. ย After their stunning Drink The Sea album in 2010, the trio took time in shaping up their second album, which came out last year. Love Death Immortalityย is an absolute treat for anyone whose ipod playlist calls for “hard, pulsing and headbang-worthy” tracks.

To get you up to speed on what these wonderful guys are upto, here are a few factoids about the band and music you oughta’ know.

1. The Blade

2014 was a spectacular year for the trio, as they showcased their new musical element called ‘The Blade’ during their live shows. A gnarly-looking structure built by movie set designers, it consists of screens, ย  and drums used as keyboards, triggers and modulators alike, making it possible for the band to actually play their music on stage, of a genre that is otherwise deemed quite mechanical and all about ‘pushing buttons’.

ย “It really represents who we are and what weโ€™re trying to say, and itโ€™s just a functional thing that lets us play our music the way we want to play our music.”

2. Back when they were broke, they used to practically build their audio and lights shows.

“Before we could afford professional show designers and a crew, we built, programmed, set up and took down our audio + light show each night. DIY.”

3. Their love for cooking is like their love for making music

“We love cooking because it’s like making music. put in love, achieve the perfect mix of elements, + share with people.”

4. Going on pilgrimage was an integral part of their new album

Post Drink The Sea, the mob was being asked to perform at the biggest dance music festivals and events worldwide, a clear indication of their new-found popularity. Impressive album sales and sold-out shows did not, pressure them into punching out a new album immediately. Instead, they took their time with Love Death Immortality,ย by first going into a self-induced hiding. In between putting outย some massive remixes of music by The Prodigy, Daft Punk and Tv on the Radio, the band headed over to Joshua Tree, California to record desert ambience (which was used in the album) ย and seek inspiration in general by exploring new territory.

5. Their remixes of some popular tracks are pretty sick

The Prodigy – Breathe (The Glitch Mob Remix)

Nalepa – Monday [The Glitch Mob Remix]

The Glitch Mob – Seven Nation Army Remix (The White Stripes)

Daft Punk – Derezzed (The Glitch Mob Remix)
