Half a million garbage bags were collected on Monday morning after the festival ended.

This year’s Glastonbury was hands down the muddiest ever and possibly the dirtiest. The muddy affair ended on a high note with Coldplay giving one of their best performances till date, but Monday morning greeted revellers (and organisers) with some grim realities. For example, the garbage that clutters almost all of the festival grounds.

The festival hires 1,800 litter pickers to scour the 1,000-acre site, with the Glastonbury Free Press estimating that 500,000 bags of rubbish, 57 tonnes of reusable items and 1,022 tonnes of recycling will be collected. Muddy conditions are not making things easier, with reports of a two-hour traffic jam on the way out of the festival.

This year had some of the best performances by acts such as Muse, Adele, Bastille and Ellie Goulding.Β
