We’re not sure how they’re gonna regulate this ban, though.

Cannes Film Festival is just around the corner, with countless film-buffs, critics, stars and fans gearing up for one of the most important events in film – a bunch of which will be heavily disappointed by a new restriction for all attendees.

Yup, Cannes has gone ahead and banned the taking of selfies at this year’s event. Scheduled to take place from May 13 to 24, Cannes will be the first ever festival to ban something so trivial as taking a picture of one’s self.

According to Complex, the festival’s director, Theirry Fremaux explained the ban in a quote:

β€œWe don’t want to prohibit it but it’s really a matter of timing. We have a certain amount of time to get people across the red carpet and up the steps and it really slows things down if people stop every two meters to take a picture of themselves, with themselves.”

A reason that does make sense for the red carpet, but is otherwise quite extreme.
