The US film festival has earned a reputation for being the most ridiculously entertaining events in the city’s calender for film nerds. We explore what’s happening this year

If you’re a film buff living in or around Texas, there can be no excuse for missing the Fantastic Fest. A far cry from being just a film screening-oriented event, this week-long affair (which will take place this year from September 18-25) features everything outlandish — from a nerd rap contest to a Β food-fight and even a metal karaoke. With this year being the 1oth anniversary, you can only expect things to go, well, more ludicrous.Β Here’s what to expect at this year’s edition.

1. Food Fight

The 10th anniversary celebrations will kick-off with what the organisers choose to call “psychopathic shindigs”, including a massive food fight that will “shake the foundations of the earth.” Manna!

2. Karaoke For Metal Freaks

Scream into the mic, or put in inside your screaming mouth, at Karaoke Apocalypse. The event encourages metalheads to live it out in the most thunderous manner possible.

Β 3. Nerd Rap Throwdown

In the wake of the hip hop circuit witnessing a rise in the number of nerd rappers, this competition encourages aspiring artistes to rap aboutΒ geek culture. Yes!
