India is no stranger to the wonders of Psy Trance. Ever since the travelling hippies of the west introduced the genre to the Indian people way back in the seventies, the magical sound waves of Psy Trance has seen a massive growth in terms of popularity and cult-following.
The popularity of the genre has grown so much that there are now several large scale Psy Trance events and festivals that are held across the country. These events and festivals attract thousands of fans, who travel great distances to βloose themselvesβ and hear some of the biggest names in the scene perform live.
As the mercury in most cities rises, Psy-Trance fans flock to the hills to escape the summer heat and indulge in some top-of-the-line trance. Keeping that in mind, The Sherp puts together a list of some of the best βescape-the-heatβ Psy Trance festivals that are happening this summer for you to indulge in.
1) Himalayan Music Festival (17th May, 2014)
This first time festival aims to spread joy and fun in the midst of the Himalayas. According to the founders, it is going to be a unique amalgamation of Art & Entertainment, the likes of which the country has never seen before. Sadly essential details of the festival arenβt out yet so donβt pack your bags just yet. Also a word of warning to the seasoned raver, the promoterβs have a strict βno-drugsβ policy so donβt expect any intense, mystical mind-journeys.
2) Cokabana Teknival Festival (17th to 22nd May, 2014)
Created by a bunch of psy folk who wanted to develop a βconnecting link between the cosmos and the mother natureβ through electronic music, this 5 day psy trance festival will feature a massive line-up of some of the biggest names in the genre from around the world. The biggest draw however is not the music but the venue β The Challal Pavitra Valley in Kasol, Himachal Pradesh. Set it in the midst of the beautiful Himalayan rage, far-far away from the sweltering heat, this is a must attend for all Psy Trance fans in the country.
3) Kundalini Festival (23rd to 24th May, 2014)
One of the most anticipated festivals in the Indian Psy Trance calendar, the Kundalini Festival is bringing together some of the biggest names in the scene (both International & Indian) to perform over two days in the beautiful hills of Manali. Apart from the massive line-up, this festival also has some amazing camping options, a meditation/chill-out zone and even a βtrippyβ flea-market. So if you are into Psy Trance and in need for a vacation in the hills, we would suggest you make your way to this festival for sure.
4) Indrasan Festival (Last week of May)
One of the more popular mountain Psy Trance festivals in the country, this eco-friendly festival has been raving up the hills of Manali since 2009. Bringing together some of the biggest names in the genre with some amazing views, camping and relaxation this festival is a staple in every Psy Trance fans calendar.
5) Parvati Peaking (31st May to 1st June)
Now in itβs second edition, the Parvati Peaking festival is considered as one of the biggest Psy Trance festivals of the season. With a line-up that comprises of some of the biggest names from the genre, this two day psy trance extravaganza is a must attend for fans across the country.
6) Cosmic Zoo (14th to 15th June)
This two day Psy Trance festival that is conducted in the picturesque city of Rishikesh, brings together mystical vibes and community spirit with some of latest and best Psy Trance music in the scene today.
7) Arudra Festival (5th to 8th June)
This 4 day psy trance extravaganza in Manali (Himachal Pradesh), has been described by the organizers as a “Mind shifting musical, art & cultural experience in a friendly and comfortable environment”, which judging by the picturesque venue and massive line-up, it is sure to be.
